Ireland - Romania

October 11 Match

WHAT'S HAPPENING? (posted 13th October 2003)
Must have been quite a site in down town Gosford with the Irish and Romanian fans descending to watch their teams battle it out at 5pm local time. The Irish team are considered to be dark horses, but that's nothing new. The Romanian team tried really hard but the Irish team really outclassed them and it showed! By half time Ireland had posted 26 points while Romania was yet to put points on the board.

While Ireland was clearly the much better team on the day, the Romanians gave it a good go - it took 20 mins for Ireland to get themselves going and then bung on the points. Shane Horgan scored a try that was converted, taking their 9-0 (3 penalty kicks score) lead out to 16-0.

The big boy hooker from Ireland, Keith Wood scored a great try as well. He must have momentarily forgot that he's a big boof head hooker and grabbed the pass from the scrum half and belted through the defence line and onto the try line! WTG Keith Wood :))

And so it continued. The Irish dominated the games, and it wasn't until a late try was scored by Romanian Maftei that the score didn't look quite as ugly as it might have. Still, 45-17 victory to Ireland is a good win - and they picked up a bonus point!
